Dr. Soares was raised on the island of Bermuda.  He came to the states and graduated in 1987 magna cum laude from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  In 1988 he completed his Masters in History.

 

Dr. Soares began his medical training by attending Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.  After receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1992, he trained in general surgery at Washington University until 1994.  He completed his surgery residency from 1994 to 1997 at Brown University.  Dr. Soares remained at Brown University until completing a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery in 1998.  While completing his fellowship Dr. Soares published many articles related to laparoscopic surgery and also was a Clinical Instructor in surgery.

 

In 1998, after finishing his surgical training Dr. Soares moved to Hilton Head Island and began his practice of general surgery.

 

Dr. Soares received his board certification in general surgery in 1998 and was recertified in 2008.  He has been a fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 2001.  He is also a member of the South Carolina Medical Association, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.

 

Dr. Soares is licensed to practice surgery in South Carolina and Florida.  Dr. Soares has privileges at Outpatient Surgery Center of Hilton Head, Hilton Head Hospital, and Coastal Carolina Hospital.
