Richard L. Hussong, Jr., MD, FACS

Like so many Hilton Head Islanders, Dr. Hussong came here from Ohio.  He grew up in the Dayton, OH area and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Wright State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.

 

After college he attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1993.  Both his internship and residency in general surgery were completed at the University of Tennessee—Memphis from 1993 to 1998.

 

Upon completion of residency Dr. Hussong joined  Oregon Surgical Group, a satellite of the Toledo Clinic, in Ohio where he remained until starting his practice here in Hilton Head in January of 2003.

 

Dr. Hussong was initially board-certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1999 and just completed the recertification process in 2009.  He has been a fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 2001.  He also maintains memberships in the American Medical Association, the South Carolina Medical Association, and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

 

Dr. Hussong has active licenses to practice medicine in South Carolina and Ohio.  He maintains privileges at Outpatient Surgery Center of Hilton Head, Hilton Head Hospital, Coastal Carolina Hospital, and Bluffton-Okatie Outpatient Center.
